History of SIC

The development of the Scientific Imaging Center (SIC) began in 2014 with the initiation of a bioimaging center at Universitas Indonesia (UI). During this period, UOBC was officially established at UI as an early effort to strengthen bioimaging research and advanced microscopy facilities in Indonesia.

In 2018, a significant milestone was achieved through a collaboration agreement between Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Olympus. In the same year, IOBC was officially established at ITB, marking the expansion of bioimaging and imaging research infrastructure within the institution.

The collaboration continued to grow in 2022 through a renewed agreement involving ITB, Evident (formerly Olympus), and PT WPM as the official Olympus distributor in Indonesia. This partnership reinforced the commitment to advancing imaging technology, research collaboration, and scientific capacity development.

By 2024, the initiative evolved into the Scientific Imaging Center (SIC). This phase included the development plan of IOBC, laboratory expansion, organizational reorganization, and the continuation of strategic collaborations between Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Evident Scientific. Pte.Ltd, and PT Wadya Prima Mulia (WPM). SIC represents a major step toward becoming an integrated scientific imaging hub that supports research, education, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in Indonesia.
