Optimizing Sample Preparation for Confocal Microscopy in Biomedical Applications

Scientific Imaging Center (SIC), in collaboration with the Universitas Padjadjaran Biomaging Laboratory (UBL) and supported by PT Wadya Prima Mulia (WPM), is pleased to announce the upcoming workshop “Optimizing Sample Preparation for Confocal Microscopy in Biomedical Applications”, which will be held on 10–11 June 2026 at the UNPAD Biomaging Laboratory (UBL), Jatinangor.

As confocal microscopy continues to play an increasingly important role in biomedical and life science research, the quality of sample preparation remains a critical factor in obtaining reliable and high-resolution imaging data. This workshop is designed to provide participants with both theoretical understanding and practical experience in preparing biological samples for confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), helping researchers improve image quality and experimental reproducibility.

The program will feature lectures from leading researchers at Universitas Padjadjaran. Astrid Feinisa Khairani, dr., M.Kes., Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine will discuss the fundamental principles of Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy and essential sample preparation strategies for medical and cell biology research. In addition, Muhammad Yusuf, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will present perspectives on the future development of bioimaging research in Indonesia and its growing significance across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

A key highlight of the workshop will be the intensive hands-on training sessions focused on confocal imaging workflows using the Olympus FV1200 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope. Participants will gain practical experience in sample preparation techniques, fluorescence imaging workflows, and confocal observation methods commonly applied in biomedical research.

The workshop is intended for researchers, lecturers, students, laboratory personnel, and professionals working in biomedical sciences, cell biology, biotechnology, and related fields who wish to strengthen their competency in advanced microscopy techniques.

Through this activity, SIC aims to support the development of high-quality bioimaging research in Indonesia by promoting best practices in sample preparation and microscopy workflows. The workshop also provides an opportunity for participants to interact directly with experts, exchange research experiences, and expand their professional networks within the bioimaging community.
